So I read a story today about 600 protesters detained in Denmark. This made me think…

No one should dispute that the burning of fossil fuels will cause global warming. But we just need to embrace it and adapt to its consequences. Who cares if the Miami or NYC shoreline rises 5 feet in the next 200 years? Or even the next 50 years. We will re-build. We will adapt.

Who’s to say that Al-Qaida or Iran wouldn’t trigger a global nuclear holocaust in the next 5 years? Don’t you think that war is more important? If a major US city got flooded like New Orleans TOMORROW, it would spur the largest city re-construction ever, creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs.

Being energy efficient costs more money. It costs more for big corporations, and they pass the costs onto us, the consumers. It’s great that some people can use solar panels on their roofs, and can afford the the energy efficient light bulbs. But not all of us have that kind of money to spend.

We need to realize that there will NEVER be any change, and they need to focus their attention elsewhere. Let me say that again: there will never be any real change in our policies to stem climate change. Accept it. Get real.

It is so disheartening to know that some people are so passionate about all the issues that don’t matter (climate change, abortion, illegal Mexican immigration—feel free to add to this list).

American political passion is such a beautiful thing, and it’s so sad to see it wasted on stupid issues while real issues like war, national security, consumer protection, and financial regulation are being ignored. Why don’t people debate the real issues with the same fervor like they do about the stupid issues?

I wonder what would happen if U2 hosted a concert in advocacy of a consumer protection agency that would keep banks from screwing us from all those fees that they charge. Would MTV sponsor that?

The things people chose to care about blows my mind. Have my thoughts here today fallen on deaf ears?

The earth is in danger of catastrophic events. Our current wastefulness is killing our wildlife, atmosphere, and water. We are responsible for this current environmental crisis. God chose the human race to care for the earth, but we have neglected and abused this responsibility.
Although there are many problems facing the planet, we can narrow them down to three main ones. They are: water pollution, over hunting and over fishing a species to extinction, and global warming.
The first item on the list, water pollution, consists of oil spills, litter, and harmful chemicals. Oil spills occur when a ship has a leak and spills oil into the river, ocean, lake, etc. Litter is the dumping of garbage into rivers, lakes, oceans, etc. Lastly, chemicals are usually dumped into rivers by industrial factories located on or near a riverbed.
All three of the water pollution problems can be solved by people being more careful, but unfortunately many people don’t care about the earth or future generations.
Oil spills could mainly be prevented if ship captains were a little bit more aware of their surroundings and avoided big objects. Litter might be resolved if people were more educated on the issues and knew what kind of deadly consequences arise every time they throw a piece of litter on the ground. To solve the problem of chemicals being dumped, local governments need to strictly regulate and enforce laws against it.
The over hunting of fish is a problem, because fishermen need to continually fish to make money, but without regulation, entire fish populations could be wiped out in a matter of years. More countries need to protect fish by putting them on an endangered species lists, therefore making it illegal to catch endangered fish.
Of the three issues, global warming is the most controversial. Although most scientists agree that global warming is a legitimate threat, there are some scientists who believe it is entirely natural and will go away in a few years. The scientists who believe that it is a threat, point towards green house gases that are poured from cars and factories every day. They believe that the gasses clog the atmosphere and trap in sunlight, that in turn, heats the planet. To help the planet from this problem, people could buy more fuel efficient light bulbs, cars, and appliances. Worldwide, governments and energy companies should begin to convert their power sources to solar power and wind energy. Car companies should also begin to design electric cars that don’t pollute the air.
These are just a few steps people can make to save the planet; if we don’t, life on the planet could cease to exist.

light bulb question is this democracy?

this question about light bulbs,is a bit deep but how can the government ban a light bulb ?? even if the light bulb uses up 2,000 Watt bulb if im paying for it,but you who cannot think, just a few more things beside WHO makes more cash from the change over and if the bulb is any better for the environment or not,but i dint like the idea of destroying matter to get energy but some fools say it is safe (just like the tobacco company’s said 40 years ago)but if it is better for the environment then it is ok to use old style light bulbs ?? what if you have Solar power ?? what if i trade in my baths and not care about my smell can i then use the energy for more wast full equipment ?? as for the issue of global warming we have been told from school (for me im 43 now and i didn’t learn anything) that there will be a ice age soon why?? they didn’t just assume it they looked at the evidence and it is a fact this is a ice planet well over 50% of its life it has been frozen, but we seem to think this planet was set up JUST RIGHT FOR US and not pola bears can some one work out what the average temperature for the last 1,000,000,000 years has been and tell me is it hotter or colder ??it all dint matter anyway the governments will take the cash off us 1 way or another we need our nuclear subs built :)

If this global warming is even remotely accurate, why aren’t politicians doing more to promote solar, especially passive, heating products? Ya know, something more productive than a stupid light bulb! I personally dont think they remotely care about ‘global warming’. I really think they’re just looking for a ‘new’ and ‘politically correct’ reason to raise taxes.
